Harbor Springs, Michigan

Nestled along the deepest harbor in the Great Lakes, lies the charming 100 year old waterfront community of Harbor Springs, waiting to welcome visitors who want to soak up the sunsets, spectacular views from the bluffs above or settle in the shores of our crystal clear water.

Sarah’s Grandma and Grandpa Danin lived in Harbor Springs for many years so she grew up there many weekends and holidays. The Dickey’s now have a home in Birchwood Farms Golf and Country Club, which is where the wedding will take place! The first time Sarah brought Joe to Harbor Springs he instantly fell in love and they have known ever since that that’s where they would be married!

Sarah and Joe have put together their favorite activities ranging from food and drink to golf and boating. Please be sure to click on the tabs below to start planning your trip to Harbor Springs!

Twisted Olive

319 Bay Street
Petoskey, MI

Our absolute favorite brunch location with awesome views of the Bay! Located downtown Petoskey, we love to go to the Twisted Olive for breakfast or lunch and then walk around downtown Petoskey. Sarah recommends the croque madame, but everything on the menu is delicious!

The Pier

102 E. Bay Street
Harbor Springs, MI

The Pier is a Harbor Springs landmark and has the most amazing view of the bay. The Pier should be on everyone’s radar when you’re looking for a semi-upscale dinner out.

Also, part of the Pier is Dudley’s Deck, which offers covered dining on the patio or the open grass area across from the dock. You must go to the hostess outside to be seated in this area and Dudley’s Deck offers a more casual menu and is a great place to get a cocktail and watch the sun set over the harbor.

Sam's Graces

339 State Street
Harbor Springs

Great place to get breakfast, located downtown Harbor Springs. Owned by a couple who met in Coldfoot, Alaska, Sam’s Graces aims to use all fresh and local products and their dedication to quality food really comes through in all of their breakfast dishes!

Paper Station

145 E Main St
Harbor Springs, MI

The Paper Station is a great restaurant on Main Street downtown Harbor Springs, which offers casual and delicious food in a fun environment. This is also a good place to just grab a beer and to catch any Michigan sports games that are on!

138 W. 3rd St
Harbor Springs, MI

Johan’s is an absolute Dickey family favorite! There is never a trip to Harbor Springs that doesn’t start with a stop at Johan’s for a bagel, donut, breakfast sandwich and everything in between! There are several locations in Northern Michigan, but the one to check out is located downtown Harbor Springs.

Muer Kitchens

131 State Street
Harbor Springs

This is a new restaurant opened by Susan Muer, daughter of the famous Kruse and Muer restaurants in Rochester Hills. She’s kept several of the family recipes and we recommend coming here for breakfast or lunch for quality seafood and recipes with a lot of history.
Fun fact: Sarah’s cousin, Ben Varner, works here during the summer!

Other Info

There are several airports in Northern Michigan, so we’ll leave the travel arrangements up to you! Although your initial thought might be to fly into Detroit, that is actually the farthest airport. Our suggestion is to fly into Traverse City as it is the closest airport and offers the most scenic drive along Lake Michigan to Harbor Springs. Other airports that are within 3 hours are Flint and Grand Rapids.

Cherry Capital Airport, Traverse City, MI (75 miles)
Gerald Ford International Airport, Grand Rapids, MI (205 miles)
Bishop International Airport, Flint, MI (216 miles)
Detroit Metro Airport, Detroit, MI (286 Miles)

“In Michigan, you are never more than 6 miles from a fresh body of water”

We have a room block at the Colonial Inn, located downtown Harbor Springs. This is a seasonal inn and only operates during the summer months. To reserve a room with the group rate please call Brian Link at (305) 289-0265 between Tuesday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Be sure to mention that you are with the Dickey/Appleyard wedding. Queen and double bed room are $119, King and queen rooms are $129. DON’T BOOK ONLINE. You will only receive the group rate by calling Brian directly. As a note, there will be transportation available from the Colonial Inn to the wedding.

Another option is to rent a house in the Harbor Springs area. There are two options when choosing a rental house. You can stay downtown Harbor Springs, which is a good option if you want to stay close to the water and be walkable to shops and restaurants. There’s also an option to rent a house in Birchwood, which is a golf course community and is where the wedding will be taking place.
